The Miradouro do Zebro is a striking viewpoint located in the Serra do Moradal, within the municipality of Oleiros, Portugal. Designed by renowned architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, this circular platform extends 30 meters above the ground, offering visitors a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

Constructed from exposed reinforced concrete, the platform measures 15 meters in diameter and is anchored directly into the rocky massif. Access is provided via a ramp equipped with stainless steel guardrails, ensuring visitor safety. The design includes two glass floor sections, allowing for unique downward views of the terrain below.

The viewpoint is situated at an elevation of 888 meters, making it the highest point of the escarpment. It overlooks the valley of Ribeira das Casas da Zebreira, approximately 200 meters below, and provides a clear view of the complex quartzite ridges of the Muradal range.

In addition to its architectural significance, the Miradouro do Zebro is integrated into the Naturtejo Geopark and serves as a waypoint on the International Appalachian Trail, which traverses the Appalachian mountain range. The area is also equipped with 32 climbing routes of varying difficulty levels, catering to both novice and experienced climbers.

The name “Zebro” refers to a species of wild horse that inhabited the Iberian Peninsula until the 16th century. Described as resembling a domestic donkey but larger and more robust, the zebro was known for its speed and distinctive gray and white striped coat.

For those interested in visiting, the Miradouro do Zebro is accessible via the ER 238 road and is approximately 20 kilometers from the town of Oleiros. Its unique design and breathtaking views make it a noteworthy destination for architecture enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
