Aqueduto da Amoreira

Portugal - Portalegre

Stretching over 7 kilometres and reaching heights of up to 30 metres, Aqueduto da Amoreira is one of Portugal’s most remarkable engineering feats. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries to supply water to Elvas, this majestic aqueduct is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a striking feature of the city’s landscape.

Visitors can walk along the aqueduct’s base, admire the towering arches, and follow its path through the city—all at no cost. The best viewpoints are near the entrance to Elvas, where the aqueduct’s height and grandeur are most impressive.

For history enthusiasts and photographers, Aqueduto da Amoreira is an unmissable, free attraction in Alentejo.
